In the thick of it: what it’s really like working for an MP

David Jones at the Information and Outreach Service has written to tell us about an event taking place next month where the reality of working for an MP will be discussed – so those of you who aren’t sure what you’re actually doing may be interested!

It’s on Tuesday 24 November 6.30pm to 8pm at the Skeel Lecture Theatre, People’s Palace, Mile End Campus, Queen Mary University of London, London, E1 4NS and is billed as “a lively evening at Queen Mary University of London discussing the realities of working for an MP. In a demanding, sometimes insecure, environment, find out how staff ensure MPs are well-supported to address constituents’ concerns and party political needs, while dealing with daily pressures and challenges”

Speakers include:

  • Imran Ahmed – Parliamentary Adviser to Hilary Benn MP
  • Janet Walker – Parliamentary Assistant to Tom Tugendhat MP
  • Patrick Diamond – lecturer in Public Policy, Queen Mary University & former Special Adviser to Lord Mandelson (Chair)

As well as an insight into the day to day work of Parliament, attendees will also be able to access information about careers in Parliament.
