Salary Ready Reckoner Added 12 April 2006 It's that time of year when MPs are reviewing staff salaries. But how much can they afford to pay each member of staff? How many staff can they afford to employ? Many people don't realise that the staffing allowance has to cover the Employer's National Insurance Contributions, as well as the gross salary of each staff member. In order to make it easier for MPs to work out what they can afford, the Department of Finance and Administration has put a 'Salary Ready Reckoner' on their intranet pages. The Ready Reckoner is a simple spreadsheet, where you punch in the prospective salary amounts, and it will automatically work out the Employer's National Insurance Contributions and tell you how much you have left in the staffing allowance. You can download the Salary Ready Reckoner here (Microsoft Excel File) To find the Salary Ready Reckoner online, follow the links from the Parliamentary Network home page: Departments and Offices >>
