Fire safety awareness training for the Parliamentary Estate

Added 10 May 2010

Legally required annual fire safety awareness training for the Parliamentary Estate is now available on-line to Members’ staff. Covering both general and building specific fire safety arrangements it will ensure you know what to do in the event of a fire.

The link to the on-line fire safety awareness training is now live on the intranet and can be found at http://intranet.parliament.uk/evacuation-emergencies/fire below the section on Muster Points.

To access the training: after clicking on the link you will need to enter your full Parliamentary email address, click on the arrow to enter the training package and again on the arrow to start the presentation.

You may wish to use this as an opportunity to make sure your constituency offices are clear of all fire risks and remind yourself of the evacuation arrangements there. Ensure that all areas are free from litter, that doors are not propped open and sockets are not overloaded and that all fire safety equipment is in good working order.

Did you know that if you are based on or regularly visit the Parliamentary Estate and would have any difficulty in evacuating a building the Parliamentary Fire Safety Team can help identify appropriate arrangements for your safe evacuation and develop a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan. The Fire Safety Manager can be contacted on x4714 and his deputy on x2452. They can advise on domestic fire risks as well as those affecting individuals working on the Parliamentary Estate.

Note: The training uses Flash. Most Members and Members’ staff should have Flash installed on their computers already (or will have shortly when they receive new equipment from PICT). However if you find that you do not, please contact the PICT Service Desk on x2001.
