This is an updated version (third revision) of the guide which originally appeared in October 2006.

Eaga is the largest provider of residential energy efficiency solutions in the UK; we are an employee-owned plc working for DECC, the Welsh Assembly Government, several Utilities in both the energy and water sectors and Local Authorities in managing the delivery of efficiency programmes throughout the UK for almost twenty years.  To date we have delivered assistance to over 5 million vulnerable households in the United Kingdom through the installation of heating and insulation measures.

Whilst the sectors we work across are varied they nonetheless impact upon vulnerable constituents across the country and our work has had a positive affect on the lives of millions.

Eaga Renewables

Eaga are experienced in providing micro generation renewables to domestic or large scale projects, such as heat and power generation solutions for schools and universities. We provide renewable energy solutions for the commercial, residential and public sector offering solar thermal, photo voltaic, ground source and air source heat pump systems.

Eaga’s Clean Energy Programme

This programme installs solar-voltaic technology on social housing properties, which allows the tenants to benefit from free electricity, whilst Eaga is able to recoup the cost of the solar panel and the install in conjunction with the Feed-in-Tariff.  The initial expense of the programme is being funded through private equity investment; there is no cost to the tenant or the Social Landlord.  For more information, please follow the link: http://www.eaga.com/Clean-Energy-Programme.

Fuel Poverty

Eaga manages the Warm Front fuel poverty initiative on behalf of the Department of Energy and Climate Change.  Under this initiative we have assisted over two million households to keep warm through the installation of heating and insulation measures.  We have included in this pack a Constituency Report detailing the work that we have had carried out in your constituency, under Warm Front.  For more information please follow the link: Warm Front (England only).

In Wales, we manage the Home Energy Efficiency Scheme (HEES) on behalf of the Welsh Assembly Government.  We have assisted over 120,000 households install energy efficiency measures with the aim of reducing their fuel bills.  For more information please follow the link: Home Energy Efficiency Scheme (Wales only).

Eaga Water Services

Eaga Water Services provides a domestic demand side-management solution to cutting water use.  Eaga Water Services can deliver a 10-15% reduction of water consumption per home – saving not only water but also money for metered households.

Eaga’s Apprentice Programme

Eaga is working in conjunction with Backing Young Britain, the cross-party campaign bringing together business, public sector organisations and the voluntary sector to provide more opportunities for young people aged 16 and 24.   We currently employ 40 apprentices in various disciplines across the business and are in the process of expanding this programme.

Community Legal Advice

Eaga Advice Services offers both welfare benefit advice and Community Legal Advice.  We are the largest provider of Community Legal Advice in England.  This is a telephone based service offering legal advice on issues such as housing, debt, employment and Welfare Benefits to vulnerable people under the Legal Aid Scheme.  It is a comprehensive service that can assist clients with general enquiries or more complex issues involving Court action and Tribunal Hearings. For more information, please follow the link: Community Legal Advice

Digital Switchover

Additionally, we manage the Digital Switchover Help Scheme on behalf of the BBC, providing support to thousands of householders across the country in preparing for the switch-off of analogue television.  For more information, please follow the link: Digital Switchover Help Scheme

Helping MPs to help Constituents:

We regularly work with MPs across the country. There are four main ways we can work with you to raise Energy Efficiency Awareness in your constituency:

  1. Energy Awareness Days.

With rising fuel prices and the strains that they place on household finances, as well as the impact of energy use on the climate, these events are a way to encourage reduced energy use and raise awareness of the support that is available to use energy more efficiently.

Events are constituency-based and organised in partnership between Eaga's Government Affairs Team and your office.

Most often held on a Friday to fit best with MPs’ diaries, the events bring together advisors from Eaga, local charities and community groups to offer advice and services to constituents on energy efficiency; benefit entitlement;  pensions; health; housing; home fire safety and others.

  1. Visit to a householder

With over 5 million households assisted to date, Eaga’s Government Affairs Team can always find a constituent who would be happy to welcome their local MP into their home. These visits provide a valuable insight into the work of Eaga and can involve a visit to a householder who has benefited from the Clean Energy Programme, Warm Front or HEES, or our Water Efficiency work.

  1. Constituency Reports

We provide all elected politicians in England and Wales with a constituency report detailing the work undertaken in their constituency.  For those MPs in Northern Ireland and Scotland, these are being worked upon and we will update you soon.  In addition we produce a press release containing these figures which can be used in local media campaigns. These materials are available via each politician’s private ‘Micro-site’ the login details for which can be provided by contacting the Government Affairs Team.

  1. Letter to constituents

We would be happy to work with you in the production of a letter to constituents who are most likely to be eligible for Warm Front assistance; this can be arranged in conjunction with your Local Authority.
