Commons Library talks
A series
of topical talks by Commons Library subject specialists and external
speakers.
Added: 23 March 2010
Are you missing out on a precious resource from the Library?
Have a look at the lists below: first a glimpse at some
forthcoming Library talks and,
following that, a brief list of the
six most recent talks.
These talks tend be on issues of current concern and are
delivered by subject specialists on the Library and, sometimes, by outside
speakers. To book a place ring

Occasionally the Powerpoint presentations are available after
the talk and these will be useful for those who cannot easily get to the talks.
A good example is the most recent talk: Welfare reform update. We felt
this was likely to be particularly valued by staff located in constituency
offices and
you can see a more accessible version here on W4MP.
....and if that's not enough, here's something else good
about the Library:
Experienced staff from the House of Commons Library are available to introduce
you and your office to the Library’s vast resources. You’ll know already that
the Library lends books, produces briefings, and answers questions. They also
have a huge range of online resources – you can find address details, sources of
funding for constituents, constituency statistics, newspaper and journal
articles, and much more. Contact Antoinette Balaban to set up a meeting with a

EU
enlargement
Arabella Thorp, Library subject specialist
Does
size matter? Enlargement has perhaps been the EU’s most successful
foreign policy, but since Romania and Bulgaria joined – perhaps
prematurely – the enlargement project has slowed down. This talk will
look at the trajectory of EU enlargement, the situation of the countries
that might join next, arguments for and against enlargement and
alternatives to enlargement.
