details Pontefract and Castleford MP, Yvette Cooper is looking for a Constituency Assistant based in Castleford to assist her in her constituency activities, dealing with local issues and keeping constituents informed on key issues.

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in community campaigning to develop their skills and experience.

The post requires occasional evening and weekend work.

Duties:

  • Helping Yvette deal with local issues (such as on the local economy, health, and regeneration)
  • Setting up and co-ordinating constituency activities such as meetings or press opportunities
  • Working with the community on local issues and campaigns
  • Drafting constituency reports and mailings on key local issues
  • Monitoring constituency issues and handling related casework
  • Attending meetings with, and on behalf of, the MP.

    Person specification:

  • Good oral and writing skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Knowledge of campaigns and communications
  • Be proactive, able to work unsupervised as well as part of a team
  • Have good interpersonal skills, and be able to quickly establish good working relationships with a wide range of groups and individuals
  • Flexibility
  • A full driving license and own transport
  • Any previous work in the community would be an advantage but is not essential.
