Ed Fordham, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Hampstead and Kilburn, is looking to appoint a full-time aide / Press & Media officer in the run up to the General Election.
As a key marginal seat, Ed’s campaign is receiving a large amount of national media interest, and he has recently appeared on Newsnight with Jeremy Paxman, BBC Radio 5 Live, The BBC Daily Politics Show, Sky News and Radio 4. Furthermore, Ed has been labelled a “candidate to watch” by the Institute of Public Affairs and Total Politics, as well as being profiled by The House Magazine, Dod’s Parliamentary Communications and the Social Market Foundation. As a result of the ever increasing amount of media attention and the upcoming general election, Ed now needs someone dedicated to managing his diary and handling media enquiries.
Further, Ed's campaign has a strong local media presence, a good set of web sites and a new media presence - including a frequently updated blog, Twitter, Facebook and Youtube.
Hampstead and Kilburn is considered one of the most important Liberal Democrat/Labour swing seats at the next election. It is a new constituency, incorporating 3 of the wards which sent Lib Dem MP Sarah Teather to Parliament. According to the respected academics Thrasher and Rallings, Ed needs to gain only 474 votes to win the seat from the sitting Labour MP, and with 21/30 councillors being Lib Dems and 4/4 by-election wins since 2005, the momentum is certainly in Ed’s favour.
Duties would entail:
Arranging the candidate’s diary
Dealing with media enquires
Writing and planning press releases
Accompanying the candidate on the campaign trail
Working in the local campaign office
The ideal person for the role would:
Show extremely efficient organisational skills to deal with the demands of the candidate’s schedule
Have confident verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Have some experience of dealing with the media
Hold a politics degree or have a good understanding of the UK Political system
Be prepared to work flexible hours to suit the pace of the campaign
Sympathy with and understanding of the Liberal Democrat Party and its aims are essential, and a driving licence would be a bonus.
