The Institute for Citizenship, a charity which promotes 21st century citizenship skills and active citizenship is looking to recruit a self-motivated and adaptable intern for 3-4 months to support a range of interesting projects. This post would particularly suit someone with an interest in website content/social media and/or research.
The Institute has had an exciting start to the New Year, hosting a high-profile event for over 1,400 young people in Manchester and with a new website due to be launched in the coming months. Our work is pioneering and varied and includes Schools Question Time, the Young Citizens’ Action Agenda, wide ranging Citizenship Education materials, work on democracy/voting and work with companies and public institutions.
Either an undergraduate or graduate, the candidate should have an interest in politics/citizenship/civil society. A good knowledge of content management systems and graphic design programs is also desirable but certainly not essential.
The successful applicant’s main duties will be assisting the Project Manager and other members of staff with:
Designing web content and creating links with other organisations
Helping to develop new projects
Researching
Administrative duties
Skills required:
Understanding of current issues in democracy, civic/civil society
Excellent IT skills (web-based research, PowerPoint, Word and Excel)
Excellent administrative skills
‘Can do’ approach and accuracy/attention to detail
Sense of humour.
The role will offer lots of opportunities to gain professional experience and skills, while working on a range of exciting projects. All interns are given responsibility at an early stage and, with help from colleagues, will manage various parts of the project.
Previous interns have recently got excellent full-time jobs including as an MPs Caseworker, Campaign Co-ordinator at a leading campaign charity and an Account Executive at a Public Relations company.
The internship is available on a full-time basis from mid February until the end of May, based in the City of London. There may be the opportunity of an extension or job for the right candidate.
Reasonable travel and lunch expenses will be reimbursed (up to £10 per day).
