The Hansard Society is the UK’s leading independent non-partisan, political research and education charity. We promote democracy and strengthen Parliament, and to help us in this we're looking for an intern to join our Parliament & Government programme, which undertakes research on issues around political and constitutional reform, representation in politics and public engagement.

Applicants should have outstanding research, writing and analytical skills, good attention to detail and a high level of IT and internet literacy. A good understanding and keen interest in British politics, particularly the Westminster Parliament, is essential and a degree or equivalent in Social or Political Science, Law or related subject is desirable.

Based in our London office on Chancery Lane, it will offer you the opportunity to demonstrate your skills and experiences in a professional environment. Travel expenses (within London zones 1-6) and a daily lunch allowance of £5 will be available.

Key tasks:

  • providing research support for the programme
  • writing contributions for research projects
  • compiling a weekly digest of Parliamentary activity
  • managing contacts database and administering webpages
  • closes The closing date for applications is Monday 1 March 2010 at 10am. Interviews are likely to take place in the 4-5 March, with the successful candidate asked to take up the position as soon as possible afterwards.
