The Members' Staff Learning Portal is now launched

Added 5 July 2010

If you work for a Member of Parliament you are entitled to an account giving you access to the portal and its learning resources. The portal provides online access to learning, meaning that you can learn at a time and place that suits you.

Go to the portal homepage (http://www.mpstafftraining.parliament.uk/) for further instructions on setting up an account.

The modules are available 24-hours a day from any PC with an internet connection, allowing you the flexibility to manage your own learning. You will need to have Adobe Flash player installed, this is part of the standard PICT PC configuration but if you have questions contact the PICT helpdesk on 0207 219 2001.

Communication and People Skills

The most popular soft skills courses run by Capita Learning & Development have been converted to online modules, including:

·         Time management

·         Influencing and persuading

·         Assertiveness

·         Creative problem solving

·         Effective writing skills

·         Performing Under Pressure

Typically, these will consist of about one hour of learning per course, usually broken into 2 or 3 segments. The modules are designed to work with or without the face-to-face elements of the course - ideal if you are constituency-based and don’t wish to attend a day-long course in Westminster.

Microsoft Office

You will also have access to MS Office e-learning via the Skillsoft Knowledge Centre. This covers the full suite of MS Office applications used in your role. The learning is structured in a way that allows you to dip in to find out how to do a specific activity, or if you’re a complete beginner you can follow the whole syllabus to become an expert.

Furthermore, once in the Skillsoft Knowledge Centre you have access to online mentor support, so if you get stuck, help is on hand 24 hours a day.
